The Importance of Standards Based Grading
MS= Mastery of Standard/ Meets Standard: Student consistently demonstrates the characteristic. (Student scores an 80% or above on the formative or summative assessment of the standard and consistently shows mastery of that standard)
CA = Concern Area: Student seldom demonstrates this a complete understanding of the concept/ standard. Student scores a 79% or below on the formative or summative assessment of the standard)
In the POWERSCHOOL GRADEBOOK what you will see will look like this-
**THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS THE CODE! IT IS NOT THE PERCENTAGE! Grading is used as a communication tool between parent, student, and teacher. This way you can see the exact areas that your student is succeeding or needing some extra support! There are only two possible options for a graded assignment- MS, or CA
Assignments will be entered as either an MS or a CA in the gradebook. Numerical grades will appear on the screen (This is a flaw in the grading system but please disregard those numerical grades. The focus should always be on mastery of the standard!) Standards will be assessed several times throughout a quarter so students will show continually evolving grades addressed to each specific standard.
District Score Codes in PowerSchool Gradebook are as follows:
2017 Code Title Score
NHI Not Handed In 0%
Redo-70%
WS-With Support (With Assistance) 70%
MS-Meets Standard 100%
CA-Concern Area 0%
